GMS: Newcastle Forest and other Premier League teams are interested in Norwich striker Sargent, and players may transfer this summer
According to GiveMeSport, US national team coach Pochettino unexpectedly excluded Norwich forward Josh Sargent from the roster in the upcoming Golden Cup in the Central and North America and the Caribbean.
Sargent, although he performed well in the Championship and was selected for the All-Season, said it was a "pure football decision" and he hoped to examine other strikers. Despite his outstanding performance at the club, Sargent has failed to score international goals since 2019. As competition for places in the 2026 World Cup is becoming increasingly fierce, Sargent may need to show his strength through transfers. Currently, Sargent's contract with Norwich will last until the summer of 2028. Still, Norwich might choose to sell him if there is a sufficiently attractive offer.
Some teams in England and Germany are interested in Sargent, who almost joined the MLS team Cincinnati FC last year. Several England teams have reportedly followed Sargent over the past season, including Leeds United, Nottingham Forest, Newcastle, Brentford, Fulham and Everton. Leeds United coach Daniel Falke was Sargent's coach at Norwich and he admired Sargent very much.
Sargent's attitude towards summer transfers is relatively relaxed, saying: "I think there will be some choices this summer, if anything really happens." He also mentioned that the decision will be made by him and his wife to ensure it is good for both family and career. Returning to the Premier League could enhance his chances in the upcoming World Cup hosted by the US, Mexico and Canada, and give him a chance to prove once again that he can play well in the top English league. In his only Premier League season before (2021-2022), Sargent scored only two goals in 26 games, and Norwich was relegated.
If Sargent leaves Norwich, he has fully proved the value of joining Bremen for a transfer fee of $11 million. In his four seasons for Norwich, he has made 133 appearances and scored 48 goals.
