The Athletic reports that Nottingham Forest's long-awaited urban stadium renovation plan is finally about to be approved.

The plan plans to demolish the existing Peter Taylor stands and build a new larger stand, increasing the total number of seats in the stadium to 35,000. The Rashcliff District Council will consider the proposal on June 26.

This is a major breakthrough for the club, and the Parliamentary Planning Department has recommended that the permit be approved on the premise of meeting a range of planning conditions. Forest previously stated that the project will be started immediately once a complete planning permit is obtained (expected to be approved next year). Since then, the club also plans to further expand the stadium capacity to 40,000 by renovating the Bridgeford stands.

According to The Athletic last year, the club has reached a principled agreement with the current land owner Nottingham City Council to purchase the freehold property of the land occupied by the goal venue.

On Wednesday, the club and parliament jointly stated: "Nottingham Forest has always maintained regular consultations with the Rashcliff District Council, Nottingham City Council and Nottinghamshire Council on the reconstruction of the city football field. All parties confirmed that they are preparing for the review meeting of the Rashcliff District Council Planning Committee on June 26. No further comments are made at this stage except for legal procedures."
