TA: Ferdinand s son signs his first professional contract with Brighton, he plays as goalkeeper in the team
According to TA, Manchester United legend Leo Ferdinand's eldest son signed his first professional contract with Brighton, and he plays as goalkeeper in the team.
Ferdinand's son Lorentz signed his first professional contract with Brighton, the 18-year-old goalkeeper is Ferdinand's eldest son, and his father was a centre-back for England's national team and won six Premier League titles at Manchester United.
Lorentz has been making steady progress since joining Brighton at the age of 13. He made his first appearance in the Premier League Division II for the U21 in January and made his debut for the seventh-tier Harvent and Watfordville in April this year, when his father was also on the spot. During a work experience loan at the end of last season, he maintained two clean sheets in six unbeaten games.
Brighton has a good record in cultivating young goalkeepers. James Bedel, who transferred from Charlton in 2022, has joined the Championship team Birmingham on loan after he helped England U21 win the European Cup in Slovakia last month. Carl Rushworth has also represented England's U21 since joining his hometown team Halifax in 2019.
Earlier this month, The Athletic reported that all-round attacker Harry Howell won a three-year contract. The 17-year-old England youth international came off the bench against Liverpool in May and became Brighton's youngest Premier League player when he was only 17 years and 29 days.
Freddy Simmonds is also one of the teenagers who won professional contracts. The 17-year-old centre-back, who once captained England's U16 and U17, made the bench in the Premier League match against Leicester City in April.
Five local young players including Howell and Simmonds were trained from childhood through Brighton's Lansing youth training camp, including first-team regular and England U21 international Jack Hinshelwood.
